Our Philosophy

The Greater Lansing Adventist School is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide a spiritually oriented education for children. A belief in the existence of the Creator God is fundamental in the philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist schools. We respect His divine authority and recognize His intervention in human affairs. We believe that true education develops the spiritual, mental, and physical powers of each student, preparing them for the joy of service in this life and for the higher joy of service in the life to come. To achieve this goal, we encourage each student to:

  • develop a personal relationship with God and his fellow man as stated in Matthew 22:37-39
  • master the basic academic skills
  • value labor, physical and mental, as the blessing God intended
  • cultivate physical fitness, mental ability, and moral purity as the blessing God intended

The Greater Lansing Adventist School is operated in harmony with the guidance and direction of the Office of Education, North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

We Value Character Development

“Let the children be taught that as they open their minds to pure, loving thoughts and do loving and helpful deeds, they are clothing themselves with His beautiful garment of character. This apparel will make them beautiful and beloved here, and will hereafter be their title of admission to the palace of the King. His promise is: “They shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.””—Education, 248, 249

We Believe That True Education Means:

“More than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being and the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” — Education pg. 13

At GLAS, we are committed to providing an exceptional education that nurtures both the mind and the spirit. We believe that academic excellence and a strong foundation in Christ go hand in hand. Our dedicated teachers challenge students to reach their full academic potential while integrating biblical principles into every subject. Through rigorous academics and a Christ-centered approach, we strive to inspire a love for learning and equip students to serve God, their communities, and the world with wisdom, knowledge, and integrity. Every step of the way, we lead students closer to Christ, shaping them into the leaders He has called them to be.

We Understand That Learning Should Be Fun,

We believe in the importance of both academic growth and personal development, which is why we offer a variety of fun and enriching activities that help students grow in their faith and talents. Students begin participating in choir class in Pre-K, developing their musical abilities and love for worship. In 6th grade, students join the handbell choir and have the opportunity to participate in the annual Ringfest event in Toledo, Ohio, a special event where SDA Academy handbell choirs from across the country come together. Yearly events at Camp Au Sable like LIFT for 7th and 8th grade, and Teen Bible Camp for 8th through 10th grade provide an exciting opportunity for students to grow spiritually and deepen their faith alongside peers. Our 5th graders also have the chance to connect with nature and build teamwork skills during their Outdoor Education experience at Camp Au Sable. Additionally, all students participate in community service activities each quarter, known as “field work,” where they serve others and live out their faith in practical ways. These experiences not only strengthen students’ faith but also create lasting memories, friendships, and a sense of purpose.
